In the summer of 2008 I decided I would concentrate my painting efforts on creating abstract images. My painting style before this was always semi-abstract in that I created figurative and landscape work that would generally be described as an impressionistic / expressionistic painting style. However, majoring in psychology as an undergraduate student got me curious about why people are motivated to do what they do. In graduate school, I took a lot of art history and I studied the work and writings of a number of well know 1950's and 1960's abstract painters. I have always been intrigued with the meaning of abstract art and why artists make it. I soon found it to be the most challenging and satisfying type of painting that I have yet to discover.

My current paintings all start with an idea about color, space and shape relationships. As the painting progresses, new relationships are discovered which is what makes the process exciting. The finished work reminds me of the universe that we live in and how vast, varied and mysterious it is and probably will always be...
